September 5 2005 - Albany, NY
We arrive at sound today, and find a huge hockey arena as the venue for tonight's show. Yikes! I hate these. This building was not built with music in mind. At the soundcheck the room sounds horrible. And to make matters worse, we hear that only 2,000 tickets are sold for a place that can hold 16,000, ouch! This is going to be ugly, I think to myself.
We were suppose to start playing at 8:00 PM, but because most of the crowd were in the parking lot, we did not start until about 8:20. We came out firing on all cylinders from the start. JT walked to the gig from our hotel and over heard some people saying that they were not coming in until 9 or 9:30, because they did not want to hear us. These are the ones that in the end are very shocked at what we do. And usually find them selves eating those words. The show was awesome. It felt great from the stage and the Albany crowd seem to enjoy our show. At one point in the show we had 4 members of Ratdog sitting in with us on Valley Road. It was great. The next song was The Way It Is, and Bruce ask Jay Lane, the drummer from Ratdog to stay on for this song. Bruce then let Jay and Sonny have a drum off in the middle of the song. It was incredible :-D Jay and Sonny tore it up.
After our set, we all realized that this was the last show of the tour. And for me it was kind of sad. There were plenty of hugs and I love you's. This truly a part of my family and when we are not together I miss them.
I hope to see some of you down the road at some point. I will let you know what is going on with me and I would love to know what is going on with you. Take care, and appreciate the music. And the musicians will appreciate you.
Music keeps the soul young. :-D Live long and prosper!
Peace, JV ;-D
