September 16 Telluride, CO
Okay! So we are getting on a plane that is run with double A batteries. This is scary:-( Our crew was supposed to leave at 7 or 8 AM. When we get to the airport, two of our guys were booted from the plane because of weight. These planes are so small that there is a certain weight limit that has to be maintained. And there are only a few flights going into Telluride a day. So we had to rent a car so that our guys could get to the gig. This is a 7 hour drive. Yikes!
And then it was our turn. We had too much gear for the flight and had to let our guy drive some things up. At least we all made the flight. I think the plane held 20 people. You could see what the pilot saw. This is not for me. Plus as we were taking off the pilot tells us that this will be a bumpy ride. (is this gig really important?)
I want you to picture this. We are landing on a runway that runs out at the end of a drop off of about 3000 feet. If we can't stop we will just fall off the edge of a cliff. Ouch! As we are landing the wind is pushing this plane around like it is paper. But, we make it. I give the pilot the biggest hug in the world. Our set starts at 7:45PM
It is time for the show. We are all dressed as if we are about to ascend Mt. Everest. I have on so many layers of clothing that, I look like the Michelin Man. My hands are freezing, I forgot to bring a hat. My head feels like a frozen peanut. This is no good :-)
But after the first note, all the cold just went away. The crowd was standing and cheering, which shifted the band into high gear. We were off to the races with Bruce doing the driving. From the stage all was well and we could do no wrong. I think this being the last band show for a while, everyone threw caution to the wind. We take chances as a band anyway but, tonight we all took chances on our own. This make the gig even more special. The last song was Candy Mountain Run. It was grooving from the first note. I will miss this gig:-(
After the show, there were hugs all around and we toasted each other. Over the years we have truly become a family in every sense of the word.
I would like to thank each and every one of our old and new fans for your support and your kind words. I have had a ball performing for you, meeting you and writing this for you. I will continue to write a diary about my travels until The Noisemakers crank it up again. Take care of yourselves. I want to party with each and every one of you the next time.
Take care from your friendly neighbor hood Spiderman.
