July 11 .. Minnesota Zoo

Hello everyone,

It's been a while but, we are finally doing a few shows. Last night we were in MN. for a show at the zoo. The venue is great. The people are right on top of you and the energy in the place felt electric. This was the first real show for the band in some time and there were moments when the time off showed but, the energy made up for the lay-off.

Bruce is always finding little ways to challenge the band and last night may have been the best one yet. After the time off and with no rehearsal, Bruce let Caldwell our long time monitor man call the first half of the set:-( This would not have been so scary if we were in the middle of a long run and all the songs were tight but, we were coming off a long rest and all of us were trying to remember as many of the over 100 hundred songs as humanly possible. We are all feeling as if we are walking into the unknown. I am feeling like that person in the horror movie that is just about to get his head chopped off by the masked monster dude:-( This is horrible.

Caldwell to his credit, did not make it easy on us. The second song of the set was "Place In The Sun", the first line of the song is a killer even when I remember it. I came to the stage as a 'Dead Man Walking",:-) Holy Snike-ee's!

Much our surprise, we made it to the end of the song with very little damage. I quickly checked to see if I was missing any limbs and, having found everything still attached, I felt better about myself. We were starting to really get comfortable again. The Noisemakers were back! It was great looking out into the audience and seeing the crowd moving and swaying to the music. Bruce was back and doing his thing the way only Bruce can. Of course there was the stage dance. The dancers were happy and so loud that at one point I could not hear the rest of the band. It turned into a very funny moment and confusing for the band. There was these two little dudes that danced around so violently that if it had been me trying to pull off those moves the medics would still be trying to put me back together. Whew! Those two were something else.

A great moment in the night was Bruce forgetting the words to 'Standing On The Moon", but coming to the rescue was none other than, Mr. Caldwell Gray.. He was the night's MVP... I kept threatening to give him a black eye for the set that he called. But it was all in good fun. I love them dudes:-)

We are in Milwaukee tonight.. It should be another good show and, another adventure.. for those who will attend. Lets get ready to rumble! Yeah! I stole the last line but, hey who cares.

Peace and Blessings,

JV
