July 20
Show day,
Sonny and I go to breakfast and talk about how excited we are to play tonight. After breakfast we run into Bruce returning to his room from shooting basket, (If there is a basketball hoop near, we will find it). Back in my room, I start practicing again. My room is on the 14th floor with a perfect view of the pool. I start practicing at my window when I notice below me, Sonny is sitting at the pool getting a tan. Perfect time for a prank. I try to call his cell phone (he never goes anywhere without it). Dang!! it keeps going to voicemail. What is he doing I think to myself? He already has a tan:-)
Bruce, Sonny and I check out of the hotel and are picked up by a guy wearing a great shirt. For some reason we find the word Stomp on his shirt funny. So, in true Hornsby fashion, his name becomes Stomp. We start busting on Stomp because his air conditioning does not work, and it is hot! We also point out to Stomp that every car around us has a working air conditioning. A very funny 5 minute ride. You would have thought that we were in the car for hours.
The show was great. Bruce was really on tonight. From the first song everything was clicking. At one point in the night we start hearing feedback. We are all trying to find the problem, looking dazed and confused. And wouldn't you know it, the bass is feeding back. This is very rare. We can chalk this up to an over eager crew dude (you know who you are, and I will have my revenge:-{). One of the members of The Range and a college bud of Bruce's sat in and sounded great, Pete Harris. Pete is a great guitarist and also orchestrated the string on two songs for Halcyon Days.
We played until midnight and left the stage tired but happy.
To those that attended this show, we loved it, thanks for the positive vibes. Tomorrow San Diego.
Peace, JV:-}
